Montañera is a singer-songwriter from Bogotá, Colombia, a Marca Colombia artist, and a Member of the Artistic Portfolio of the Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Together with her other musical projects, Ságan and Suricato, she has performed more than 400 concerts in countries like the United States, Mexico, Colombia, Brazil, Argentina, Peru, Spain, France, Italy, and Turkey. She has presented her music in places as varied as the Kennedy Center, The Smithsonian Museum of Natural History, MaMA Paris, Festival Estereo Picnic, SXSW, Jazz Festival at the Park, KEXP, and Festival Colombia al Parque. She was invited by the Colombian Ministry of Culture to speak at the MaMA fair in Paris, in addition to having taught workshops on composition and Colombian rhythms, locally and abroad.
As a singer and songwriter, she has released eight albums, besides appearing as a guest in more than ten albums. Her first solo album entitled Encarnación, was produced and recorded in Buenos Aires, Argentina. It was granted Honorable Mention for the 2017 Musical Production Scholarship by the Colombian Bank of the Republic, appeared in ’25 New Independent Women’s Projects in Music’ for 2018 by Radiónica, and Best Albums of the Year and 2019 Bets of the Year by Shock. Montañera was also invited to participate in the 20th Anniversary Tribute to El Dorado by Aterciopelados for Sony Music, along with Carlos Vives, Enrique Bunbury, Camila Moreno, and Gepe. In her ten years of artistic career, she has been: New Faces by Semana Magazine, Character of the Year by Noisey, and #1 in the Radiónica Top 25. Her work has been nominated to Premios Shock, Bogoshorts, and recently included in Historia de un Crimen, a Netflix series. Before the end of 2019, she will release the first single off of her second solo effort, which is being produced by DJ PHO and will feature collaborations with Keyta of Ghetto Kumbé and Oscar Alford (producer for Pedrina.)
